Week 3 Term 1

Some of our super workers during reading time!

Meet the Student Councillors from Room 5. Maika and Rosie were voted by secret ballot to represent us on the Student Council. It was a very close race with a number of children applying for the positions.

Next week we have Parent/Teacher goal seting interviews. Thank you to all the parents that have made appointments. If you are still to do so please come and see me as the booking site is now closed.
Just a reminder that our swimming days are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Please help your child to remember their togs on these days.
Homework started last week. Many of the children made a fantastic effort by completing sentences, spelling and basic facts. Homework books need to be returned on Friday for marking. Thank you for your support in this. If there are any problems in regard to homework please do not hesitate to come and see me.

Have a happy and safe week!

Week 2 Term 1

On Tuesday mornings we have I.C.T. and library time. Our little buddies from Room 10 come to join us. We help them to select books for themselves and their class.

We have been looking at the art work of a Dutch artist by the name of Piet Mondrian. At one time, Mondrian painted realistic landscapes, but as he painted more and more, his style began to change. He started to create abstract images. Eventually, Mondrian's style consisted of geometric shapes and primary colors. After all, every shape can be created from the basic geometric shapes and every color can be created from the primaries - red, yellow and blue. We used tuxpaint to explore some of his themes.

During maths time we have been learning how to create and interpret pictographs.

Super writers and mathematicians at work....

On Friday we held our Student Council speeches. Children that were interested in representing the class on the Student Council were asked to prepare a short speech including an introduction of themselves and to outline reasons why they thought they could do a great job. We then asked some gruelling questions such as, fundraising ideas, which charities to support and so on. The candidates did an amazing job and were very articulate in their thinking.

Next week...
Our reading programme will be up and running. Some children will be coming home with a book to read and others will be independent readers. It is advised that at least 20 minutes per night is beneficial. Thank you with your support with this.
The homework blog is up and running. Homework books will be coming home on Monday with spelling and basic facts.
On Tuesday evening we have our school picnic tea on the front field,5.30pm - 7.30pm. Bring your family, dinner and a picnic rug and relax with  other families on the front field. Kelly Sports will also provide some fun activities. It would be lovely to see you there.
